The Ogun State Police Command has announced the arrest of 22 individuals, including two military personnel, suspected to be members of a cult group during a late-night raid at the Hilton Hotel in Osiele, Abeokuta.
According to a statement released on Saturday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, the operation took place on the evening of July 25, 2025, around 8:20 p.m. The raid was carried out by a combined team of officers from the Odeda and Aregbe Divisions, the Anti-Cultism Unit, and the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team.
Led by SP Adejoh Israel, the operation targeted a suspected meeting of the Aiye confraternity, following actionable intelligence that members of the cult group had gathered at the hotel.
Among the suspects arrested were 19 men, three women, and two soldiers. Law enforcement officers recovered a cut-to-size locally fabricated firearm, a UTC-branded axe, and multiple blue berets, which are commonly associated with the Aiye cult group.
“The suspects were apprehended without incident, and no injuries were reported,” the statement read. “They have since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Anti-Cultism Unit, at Eleweran for further investigation.”
CSP Odutola reaffirmed the command’s commitment to curbing cult-related violence and urged members of the public to continue providing reliable information that can support security efforts in the state.
