Troops of the 22 Armoured Brigade have killed an armed bandit in Edu LGA, Kwara State, recovering an AK-47, ammunition, and a motorcycle during a midnight operation.
Troops of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Sobi Cantonment in Ilorin, have killed an armed bandit during a midnight operation along the Lema–Daban Lema axis in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Capt. Stephen Nwankwo, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the Brigade, confirmed the operation.
According to him, soldiers from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Patigi launched a patrol in the Gbugbu area after receiving reliable intelligence on the movement of armed criminals.
“At about 12:10 a.m., the troops set up an ambush and engaged the bandits. With superior firepower, the soldiers overwhelmed them, forcing the others to retreat,” Nwankwo said.
A subsequent pursuit led to the death of one bandit. The soldiers recovered an AK-47 rifle, a magazine containing 30 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and a motorcycle.
Nwankwo added that the body of the deceased bandit has been handed over to the appropriate authorities, while the Brigade remains committed to intensifying operations aimed at eliminating criminal groups and ensuring the safety of citizens.
Kwara State, especially Edu and Patigi LGAs, has witnessed increased banditry in recent months, prompting a stronger military presence and regular security patrols across the region.
