President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of veteran labour activist Abiodun Aremu, who passed away on Sunday after a hit-and-run accident near his residence in Ota, Ogun State.
In a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Tinubu described Aremu as a devoted advocate for workers’ welfare and a fearless defender of labour rights.
He praised the late activist for his lifelong commitment to improving the lives of Nigerian workers and advancing social justice through the labour movement.
“The nation has lost a selfless patriot and a tireless fighter for the common good. Aremu was a teacher, an organiser, and a conscience of the people who inspired generations with his integrity, courage, and love for country,” Tinubu said.
The President also extended his condolences to Aremu’s family, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), and various civil society organisations. He acknowledged Aremu’s invaluable contributions as a consistent partner in the collective struggle for better working and living conditions for Nigerians.
Tinubu further noted that Aremu’s legacy would continue to inspire future activists and workers who believe in justice, fairness, and national progress.
