The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the passing of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Matilda Ngbaronye, who was in charge of the Festac Division.

According to a statement released on Saturday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, Ngbaronye died on Friday after undergoing surgery at Mayriamville Medical Centre, Bode Thomas, Surulere, Lagos.

Adebisi described her death as a great loss to the command, noting that Ngbaronye was a principled and professional officer who carried out her duties with integrity and commitment.

“The Lagos State Police Command is deeply saddened by the death of CSP Matilda Ngbaronye, DPO of Festac Division, who passed away after a surgical procedure at Mayriamville Medical Centre, Surulere, on Friday, October 24, 2025,” the statement read.

“She was known for her diligence, discipline, and dedication to duty. Her kind and humane approach to policing strengthened the bond between the police and the community she served. She consistently demonstrated professionalism and was never found wanting in the discharge of her responsibilities.”

Adebisi added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, and all officers of the command are mourning her death. The Commissioner has personally contacted Ngbaronye’s husband and elder brother, a priest, to express condolences and offer support to the family.

“The news of her passing came as a shock to everyone in the command. Burial details will be announced later. May her soul rest in perfect peace,” the statement concluded.

Ngbaronye was widely respected for her dedication, fairness, and leadership, leaving behind a legacy of integrity and selfless service.
