The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a man in connection with the killing of his elder brother in Gombi Local Government Area of the state.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement released on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, who described the operation as a significant breakthrough in the command’s ongoing efforts to combat violent crimes.
According to the police, the suspect, identified as Abubakar Sadiq, a 40-year-old resident of Boga Village in Gombi LGA, was taken into custody following credible intelligence linking him to the killing of his brother, Alhaji Sadiq Boga, on January 20, 2026.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to committing the crime alongside five other accomplices. He also led investigators to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle and 24 rounds of live ammunition believed to have been used in the attack.
The suspect further named two accomplices, Jalo Hamiyu (35) and Umar Baba (41), both from Fotta Village in Gombi LGA. A joint team comprising police officers, hunters, and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force traced the suspects to their hideouts. However, upon encountering the operatives, the suspects allegedly opened fire in an attempt to escape, resulting in a gunfight during which both men were neutralised.
Additional weapons recovered at the scene included a locally fabricated single-barrel rifle and a Dane gun.
Police authorities said efforts are ongoing to track down other fleeing members of the criminal network. The Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, commended the officers involved in the operation for their professionalism and courage, assuring residents that the command remains committed to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
The police added that the suspect will be charged to court once investigations are concluded.
