The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested a pastor from Delta State, Elijah Oro, over an alleged plan to assassinate a rival religious leader in the state.
According to police sources, Oro is accused of recruiting a 21-year-old man, Samuel Daniel, believed to be a member of the Greenlanders confraternity, to carry out the killing. The alleged scheme was reportedly connected to a dispute involving church membership and property.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Mohammed, the arrests were made after the police acted on credible intelligence. He said operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit apprehended both suspects on January 28, 2026.
The police disclosed that Samuel Daniel was arrested at the residence of the intended victim, whose identity was withheld for security reasons. Preliminary investigations allegedly revealed that Daniel confessed to being a member of the Greenlanders cult group and claimed he was hired by Pastor Oro to execute the assassination.
DSP Mohammed stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the full details and motive behind the alleged plot. He also reassured residents that the police remain committed to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
The command urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to help prevent crime and ensure public safety.
