Two residents of Ora-Igbomina, a community in Osun State bordering Kwara, have been abducted by unknown gunmen in a late-night attack.
Community sources said the assailants struck shortly before midnight on Sunday, invading a private residence along Aran-Orin Road in the Papa area of Ora-Igbomina and forcefully taking the victims away.
The incident comes less than two months after a former Customs officer, Emmanuel Owolabi, was kidnapped in the same community. Owolabi was abducted on December 15, 2025, and later released on January 12 in Oro-Ago, Kwara State, after his family reportedly paid a ransom running into millions of naira.
Speaking on the latest attack, a resident identified as Mulikat said the gunmen arrived around 11:30 p.m., firing shots into the air before dragging the two men into nearby bushes.
“We heard gunshots around 11:30 p.m. The attackers entered a house along Aran-Orin Road and took two men away. Some residents tried to pursue them, but they could not go into the bush. We suspect they are bandits,” she said.
Confirming the incident, the Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, said security operatives had launched a search-and-rescue operation to secure the victims’ release.
According to him, the abduction occurred around 11:45 p.m. after patrol officers temporarily returned to their base due to heavy rainfall.
“The victims, Tayese Adeyeye and Sunday Adewumi, were abducted during that period. Immediately the report reached us, our search and rescue teams moved in and have been combing the area,” Ojelabi said.
Police say efforts are ongoing to track the perpetrators and rescue the abducted residents.
