The Oyo State Fire Service has recovered the bodies of two men who died in separate incidents after falling into wells in different parts of the state.
One of the victims, identified as 30-year-old Shina Adedeji, reportedly fell into a well at the Aaje Ikose area of Ogbomoso in Ogbomoso North Local Government Area. The second victim, a 45-year-old man whose identity was not disclosed, died in Saki, Saki West Local Government Area, while trying to rescue a goat from a deep well.
The Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Reforms and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Moroof Akinwande, confirmed the incidents in a statement issued in Ibadan on Tuesday.
According to Akinwande, the fire service received an emergency call around 10:23 p.m. on Monday, reporting that someone had fallen into a well at Mokola area of Saki. Firefighters led by PFS II Kolade Taiwo quickly responded to the scene and discovered that the victim was trapped deep inside the well.
He explained that the man had entered the well voluntarily in an attempt to save a goat but became stuck and could not come out. The officers later recovered his body.
Akinwande also disclosed that another distress call was received at about 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday concerning a rescue situation at Aaje Ikose, Ogbomoso. Fire personnel led by CFM Oladejo were deployed and found that Shina Adedeji had fallen into a well.
He added that Adedeji became trapped after inhaling ammonia gas inside the well while attempting to retrieve a fetcher.
Following the incidents, Akinwande urged residents to be cautious and avoid taking unnecessary risks, stressing that human life is priceless.
He also recalled a similar incident on January 25, 2026, when the agency recovered the body of a 33-year-old man from an abandoned well at a filling station in Ibadan, after the victim reportedly entered the well to remove debris and became trapped.
