Nigerian actress Ajara Lasisi, popularly known as Aunty Ajara in the Yoruba movie industry, has died after battling an illness.
Her death was confirmed by her family in the early hours of Thursday.
In a video shared online, her brother, Ridwan Lasisi, announced the sad news and thanked colleagues and members of the public for their support during her medical struggle.
He also appealed to Nigerians to stop sending money meant for her treatment, explaining that the fundraising effort was no longer needed.
“Good morning everyone. My name is Ridwan Lasisi. I am Ajara’s brother. The doctor confirmed to us this morning that Ajara has passed on,” he said.
He expressed appreciation to the film industry and everyone who showed concern, while urging that no further donations should be paid into the account created for her care.
Aunty Ajara’s health condition became widely known last week after actress Ronke Oshodi-Oke publicly called for financial support.
Oshodi-Oke revealed that Ajara had been hospitalised in critical condition, placed on oxygen support, and that the cost of treatment had continued to rise despite medical efforts.
