The Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ahmed Ali, has urged personnel of the corps to adopt artificial intelligence (AI) in crime investigations to boost efficiency, speed, and accuracy.
Ali made the call on Wednesday in Abuja during the closing ceremony of a two-day workshop titled “Forensic and Artificial Intelligence in the 21st Century.”
He stressed that embracing modern technology such as forensic science and AI is necessary to meet global security standards, enhance evidence-based operations, improve response time, and support successful prosecution of offenders.
The NSCDC boss noted that crimes are becoming more advanced, technology-based, and increasingly crossing borders, making it important for security agencies to keep up with new investigative trends.
He explained that AI can play a major role in data analysis, pattern detection, biometric identification, digital forensics, and predictive intelligence.
Ali encouraged participants to apply the knowledge gained from the workshop in real-life investigations, in line with the NSCDC’s responsibility of safeguarding lives and protecting critical national infrastructure.
He also advised that AI tools must be used ethically and professionally to strengthen the effectiveness of the corps in delivering its mandate.
