The Nigeria Police Force has arrested a man identified as Johnson Daniel for allegedly stabbing an 18-year-old, Ariyo Timilehin, to death in Owo.
The spokesperson for the police command, Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the arrest in a statement released on Saturday in Akure.
According to him, preliminary findings indicate that the incident occurred during a heated argument between the two individuals on March 6, 2026.
Jimoh explained that the victim, whose full name was given as Ariyo Amos Timilehin, was allegedly attacked during the altercation. He was immediately taken to the Federal Medical Centre Owo, where medical personnel confirmed that he was dead on arrival.
Police detectives later visited the scene of the incident and recovered the knife believed to have been used in the attack. The suspect was subsequently apprehended.
The case has now been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
The police command also expressed sympathy to the family of the deceased and urged residents to avoid resorting to violence when settling disputes.
Reports gathered by the News Agency of Nigeria indicate that the victim and the suspect were close friends who were often seen together within their neighbourhood before the tragic incident.
