Suspected bandits attacked a church in Omugo community, located in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, abducting several worshippers during a Sunday service.

The incident reportedly caused panic as the armed attackers stormed the church premises and took away multiple victims before security personnel intervened.

According to local sources, at least seven individuals were kidnapped during the invasion, although authorities have not confirmed the exact number.

Security operatives, supported by forest guards and local vigilantes, responded swiftly to the attack, successfully rescuing three of the abducted victims. Efforts are ongoing to secure the release of those still in captivity.

The state Commissioner for Communications, Bolanle Olukoju, confirmed the development, praising the coordinated response of security agencies which helped repel the attackers and prevent further casualties.

She assured residents that the government has directed security forces to intensify operations aimed at rescuing the remaining victims and apprehending those responsible.

Olukoju strongly condemned the attack, describing the targeting of a place of worship as unacceptable and a threat to public safety. She reiterated the state government’s commitment to protecting lives and property.

Residents were urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could aid ongoing operations.

Authorities also noted that increased security patrols and forest surveillance in the area have already begun yielding positive results in curbing criminal activities.

The attack comes amid heightened security concerns in Kwara South, following intelligence reports warning of possible coordinated assaults across Ifelodun, Irepodun, and Isin local government areas.
