Serious allegations of abuse and misconduct have been made against officers of the Delta State Police Command, following claims by a young woman that she and others were mistreated while in police custody.
The accuser, Jenny James George, said she was among about 15 women taken to a police station in the Oporikoko area of Delta State after being picked up from different locations.
According to her account, the group was detained overnight before being brought before a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) the next day. She alleged that the officer ordered that they be punished in an attempt to force them to admit to prostitution.
George claimed the women were subjected to physical assault and intimidation, which she said was carried out by individuals acting on instructions from the DPO. She further alleged that the victims were pressured into making statements against their will.
She also stated that after the incident, the women were recorded and made to repeat the claims on camera.
The accuser said she has since experienced physical discomfort and emotional distress, and is calling for justice over the incident.
The allegations have sparked renewed concerns about police conduct and accountability, with calls for a thorough investigation into the actions of those involved.
As of the time of reporting, there has been no official response from authorities regarding the claims.
