The Delta State Police Command has arrested popular content creator Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as “Odogwu of Asaba,” over allegations that he raped a 20-year-old woman who later died after allegedly ingesting a poisonous substance.
Drivetvnews gathered that the command confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Wednesday by its spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, explaining that the suspect was apprehended following a petition submitted by the deceased’s family.
According to the police, the young woman travelled to Asaba on June 1, 2026, after Ogbonna allegedly invited her to participate in a content creation training programme he had advertised on social media.
Investigators alleged that upon arriving in Asaba, the suspect took the woman to a hotel where he allegedly raped and physically assaulted her.
Police said the woman returned home emotionally distressed and later informed her parents about the alleged incident.
The command further stated that before her death, the deceased recorded a video in which she recounted her alleged experience and the emotional trauma she said she endured afterward. Police said she later allegedly consumed a toxic substance and died despite efforts to save her.
Following the petition, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Yemi Oyeniyi, directed the Area Command in Effurun to begin an immediate investigation, which led to the suspect’s arrest.
According to the police, Ogbonna made statements during preliminary questioning that are assisting investigators, while further inquiries continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case.
The Commissioner of Police assured the deceased’s family and the public that the investigation would be thorough, impartial, and professional, stressing that appropriate legal action would be taken based on the outcome of the probe.
The command also appealed to the public to avoid speculation and allow investigators to complete their work without interference.
The case remains under investigation.
