President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has condemned the killing of one of the abducted teachers from Esiele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, describing the act as barbaric.
Drivetvnews gathered this In a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu expressed sympathy to the affected families and the Oyo State Government while assuring Nigerians that security agencies were working to rescue the remaining victims.
According to the statement, armed men invaded schools in the Esiele community last Friday and abducted staff members, students and pupils from Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School.
The Presidency stated that security personnel had been deployed to track down the attackers and secure the release of those still in captivity.
It added that security operatives were carrying out continuous operations aimed at rescuing the victims and arresting the kidnappers alongside their alleged collaborators within the community.
Tinubu sympathised with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and commended the steps already taken by the state government in response to the incident.
He also praised the Inspector-General of Police and the police commissioners in Oyo and Kwara states for their swift intervention and deployment of tactical and Intelligence Response Team operatives.
The President stated that the Inspector-General of Police was personally overseeing the technology-driven rescue operation following his directive.
He expressed optimism that the authorities would soon achieve a breakthrough and ensure that those responsible for the attack face prosecution.
Tinubu further argued that the recurring cases of kidnapping across the country highlighted the urgent need for the establishment of state police to strengthen security in underserved communities.
He therefore called on the National Assembly to speed up the passage of legislation creating state police.
