Atiku Abubakar has taken a direct swipe at Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election, declaring that the president should prepare to leave office and return to Lagos.
Speaking shortly after emerging as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) during the party’s primary election in Abuja, Atiku expressed confidence about the coming election.
According to him, President Tinubu should “pack and go back to Lagos,” implying that Nigerians would vote him out in the next general election.
Atiku also congratulated other contestants who participated in the primary, saying they were motivated by patriotism and a desire for a better Nigeria.
The former vice president secured the ADC ticket after polling 1,846,370 votes, defeating former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi and businessman Hayatu-Deen.
Despite the outcome, reports indicated that Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen rejected the results of the primary election, questioning the process.
The comments add to the growing political tension ahead of the 2027 elections, as opposition parties continue criticising the Tinubu administration over insecurity, economic hardship, and governance issues.
