The Osun State Government has rejected allegations by the All Progressives Congress (APC) that the recently inaugurated Iwo Township Road is substandard, insisting that the project was executed in line with approved engineering standards and legal procurement procedures.

Drivetvnews gathered that the government also accused the opposition party of resorting to baseless criticism after failing to derail its infrastructure development programme across the state.

Governor Ademola Adeleke made the remarks in a statement released on Saturday through his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, while reviewing his re-election campaign following visits to nine local government areas where he commissioned various projects ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

Adeleke thanked residents for their support, saying the positive reception across Osogbo, Iwo, Ila, Ilesa, Ile-Ife and other communities reflected public appreciation for his administration’s developmental efforts.

According to the governor, projects completed by his administration have addressed areas where previous governments failed, with residents openly acknowledging the improvements.

Responding to claims that the Iwo Township Road was poorly constructed, Adeleke maintained that the project followed due process and was delivered using established engineering standards.

He also alleged that the APC attempted to frustrate the state’s development agenda by withholding local government funds but said his administration still completed key infrastructure projects despite the challenges.

The governor stated that all contracts were awarded through lawful procurement processes and executed by qualified local engineers, contractors and technicians. He added that maintenance plans had also been incorporated to ensure the projects remain durable.

Adeleke further claimed the APC was experiencing internal political challenges, alleging that several party members had defected to the Accord Party while his administration continued to receive widespread public support across the state.

He urged residents not to surrender their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) or National Identification Numbers (NINs) to anyone ahead of the election, warning that such actions could be used to disenfranchise voters.

The governor encouraged eligible voters to ignore political rumours, participate in the August 15 governorship election and protect their votes.

His response followed a statement by the Osun APC Governorship Campaign Council, which described the Iwo Township Road as substandard and alleged that the contract was awarded to an interior decoration company instead of a qualified civil engineering firm.
