A teacher accused of fatally flogging a 12-year-old pupil in Anambra State has voluntarily surrendered to the police following an intensive search by security operatives.
Drivetvnews gathered that the Anambra State Police Command confirmed on Saturday that the suspect, Mrs. Dim Ebere, 47, reported herself at the Neni Police Station in Anaocha Local Government Area after days of coordinated efforts by the Command’s Safe School Protection Squad.
Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga disclosed that the search operation was carried out alongside officers from the Neni Divisional Police Headquarters, with support from community leaders and other stakeholders in Adazi-Ani.
According to the police, the suspect is now in custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka, where detectives will complete investigations into the alleged incident.
The command praised the cooperation of the Adazi-Ani community, traditional rulers, and residents whose assistance contributed to the suspect’s surrender.
Police also assured the bereaved family and the public that the case would be thoroughly investigated and that justice would be pursued in accordance with the law.
The command urged residents to remain peaceful, avoid taking the law into their own hands, and continue providing useful information that could aid ongoing investigations and policing efforts across the state.
