An 18-year-old resident, Jafar Musa, has been arrested for allegedly killing a 25-year-old student, Seyi Simon, during a student gathering in Niger State.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Easter Sunday at a hall in Kontagora Local Government Area, where students of the Federal University of Education had organised a party for newly admitted students.
According to reports, a disagreement broke out between Musa, a resident of the Angwan-Gwari area, and the victim during the event. The altercation reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation, during which Musa allegedly stabbed Simon with a sharp object.
Simon was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital in Kontagora, where medical personnel confirmed him dead.
Security operatives quickly intervened and apprehended the suspect, who is currently in custody as investigations continue.
The Niger State Police Command, through its spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident, stating that the case was reported at about 1:40 a.m. He explained that the dispute between the two individuals led to the fatal attack.
Police authorities have assured that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
