The Organising Secretary of the Lagos State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Toba Ajiboye, popularly known as Ijaya, has died after sustaining gunshot wounds in an attack by unidentified gunmen in Lagos.
Drivetvnews gathered that Ajiboye was reportedly attacked on Sunday night while returning home from his childhood neighbourhood in Fadeyi. The assailants intercepted his vehicle along the Ikorodu Road corridor and opened fire, riddling the car with bullets before fleeing the scene.
Images and videos circulating online after the incident showed the victim’s white vehicle with multiple bullet holes on the windscreen and other sections.
Although initial reports indicated that Ajiboye and other occupants of the vehicle survived the attack with gunshot injuries, later reports confirmed that the NURTW official eventually died from his wounds.
Reacting to the tragic development, the Chairman of the Lagos State NURTW, Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle, popularly known as Sego, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Ajiboye as a dependable associate, loyal friend and committed union leader.
In a tribute shared on his Facebook page, Sego said Ajiboye’s dedication to the union and their political structure would be greatly missed.
He described the late organising secretary as a trusted ally whose loyalty, friendship and years of selfless service left a lasting impact on the union.
The NURTW chairman extended his condolences to Ajiboye’s family, friends and members of the transport union, praying for God to grant him eternal rest and give his loved ones the strength to bear the loss.
He added that the deceased’s unwavering support and commitment would remain unforgettable.
