The principal of Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle, Mrs. Rachael Alamu, has disclosed that one of the teachers abducted during the May 15, 2026 attack on schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, Mr. John Olaleye, was killed while in captivity.
Speaking with journalists after the rescued victims were received by Governor Seyi Makinde in Ibadan, Alamu said Olaleye was murdered by the kidnappers shortly after the killing of another victim, Michael Oyedokun.
According to her, the abductors executed Olaleye in an attempt to pressure the government into negotiating with them.
His whereabouts had remained uncertain following the rescue operation, with many people questioning why he was absent from photographs taken after the release of the captives.
Speculation also arose after Governor Makinde announced that five teachers had been rescued, instead of the six initially abducted, prompting concerns about Olaleye’s fate.
Alamu’s account has now confirmed that the teacher did not survive the ordeal, bringing a tragic end to weeks of uncertainty for his family and colleagues.
The rescued teachers and pupils are expected to reunite with their families after undergoing medical evaluation and psychosocial support.
