There was an emotional atmosphere in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, as Professor Alamu led a thanksgiving service to celebrate the safe return of his wife, Mrs. Rachael Alamu, who was rescued after spending more than 50 days in captivity.
Drivetvnews gathered in a video shared by Oyo Matters showed the professor dancing joyfully with members of his church during the thanksgiving service, as the congregation sang songs of praise in gratitude for her safe return.
Mrs. Alamu, the principal of Ahoro Esinle School in Oriire Local Government Area, was among the teachers and pupils abducted by gunmen on May 15, 2026.
The Federal Government announced the successful rescue of all the victims on Friday, while Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde visited them on Saturday at the Military Hospital in Ibadan, where they are receiving medical treatment and psychosocial support.
The rescued pupils and teachers are expected to be officially handed over to the Oyo State Government before reuniting with their families.
The thanksgiving video has since gone viral on social media, with many Nigerians describing Professor Alamu’s celebration as a heartfelt expression of relief, gratitude and faith after weeks of uncertainty.
