Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 65 Battalion have intercepted a truck transporting a large consignment of suspected illicit drugs along the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road, leading to the arrest of the driver.
According to the Army, the operation was carried out on July 9 following credible intelligence, enabling soldiers to stop the vehicle and recover the suspected narcotics.
In a statement issued by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 81 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, preliminary investigations indicated that the consignment was being transported to the Berger area of Lagos State.
The Army said the driver failed to provide satisfactory information regarding the ownership of the drugs or their intended recipient.
The suspect and the recovered drugs were subsequently handed over to the Lagos State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and possible prosecution. The handover was conducted by the Commanding Officer of the 65 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel S. Adeojo.
Commending the troops, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Major General Adebayo Babalola, praised their vigilance and professionalism, urging them to sustain efforts against drug traffickers and other criminal elements.
The Army reaffirmed its commitment to supporting security agencies in tackling drug trafficking and related crimes across the country.
