The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a farmer, Azeez Garba, in Isin Local Government Area and has commenced a full-scale investigation to identify those responsible.
Drivetvnews gathered that the Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case and deploy all available intelligence and investigative resources to ensure the perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted.
The directive was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by the command’s spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi.
Describing the incident as cruel, senseless and unacceptable, the police commissioner assured residents that investigators were actively pursuing every available lead.
According to the statement, Garba’s body was discovered on his farmland along the Owa-Onire axis, located between Isanlu-Isin and Owu-Isin in Isin Local Government Area.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the farmer had left home for his farm but failed to return. Concerned relatives, assisted by local vigilantes, began a search and later found his motorcycle parked at the farm. His body was subsequently discovered nearby with multiple machete wounds.
The police said no arrests have been made so far but pledged that those involved in the crime would be tracked down and brought to justice.
The command reiterated that investigators are working diligently to uncover the circumstances surrounding the killing and prosecute everyone connected to the attack.
The development follows an earlier appeal by the victim’s family for a thorough investigation.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Garba’s second daughter, Abdulazeez Rofiat, said her father left for his cocoa farm and never returned. She explained that local hunters later found his body in a nearby bush after locating his motorcycle.
She urged security agencies to identify, arrest and prosecute those responsible, insisting that the family would continue to seek justice until those behind the killing are held accountable.
