Veteran Yoruba actor Yinka Quadri has shared an emotional account of his final moments with his longtime friend and colleague, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, before the actor’s death.
Ogogo reportedly died on Sunday after battling stage-four cancer and was buried the following day in his hometown around Ilaro, Ogun State.
Yinka Quadri, who was visibly emotional during the burial ceremony, has now spoken about his final encounter with the late actor at the hospital.
Describing Ogogo as his “twin brother from heaven,” Quadri said their friendship was exceptionally deep despite being born to different mothers.
“I have always said that we were twins from heaven, only born to different mothers,” he said.
In an emotional Instagram tribute shared on Wednesday, Quadri recalled becoming overwhelmed with tears when he visited Ogogo at the hospital shortly before his death.
According to him, Ogogo noticed his tears and tried to reassure him that nothing bad would happen.
Quadri said the late actor told him not to cry, prompting him to respond with “Yes, Amen.”
He also recalled helping Ogogo with a bottle of water after the actor asked him to bring it from a nearby table.
Quadri said Ogogo was encouraged after being able to drink the water despite having eaten earlier that morning. He said the actor even asked the doctors to confirm that he had indeed eaten, which they reportedly did.
The veteran actor said the moment strengthened his hope and faith that Ogogo would recover.
“At that moment, I said ‘glory be to God’. My hope and faith became even stronger. But the doctors only advised us to remain prayerful,” he recalled.
Quadri’s account has offered an emotional glimpse into the final hours he spent with one of his closest friends, whose death has left colleagues, fans and members of the Yoruba film industry mourning.
