Ogun State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant, Abayomi Hunye, has questioned the legality of his suspension by the party, arguing that the APC could not have suspended him while simultaneously accepting N50 million from him for its 2027 governorship nomination form.

Hunye made the remarks on Tuesday during an interview with Channels Television’s Politics Today, while challenging the party’s decision to disown his candidacy.

According to him, he obtained both the expression-of-interest and nomination forms after paying the required N50 million fee. He said he subsequently completed the necessary documentation and passed the party’s screening process.

Hunye further claimed that his name appeared as number 52 on the screening list, insisting that he was recognised as a legitimate aspirant ahead of the party’s primary election held on May 21.

He questioned how the APC could maintain that he had already been suspended before collecting money from him and issuing him the nomination forms.

“I bought the N50 million nomination form and was cleared for the screening,” Hunye said.

He added that the party had claimed he was suspended on April 7, yet allegedly accepted payment from him and issued the nomination documents on April 28.

“The first thing they said was that I had been suspended. They said I was suspended on April 7. How can you suspend me on April 7 and, on April 28, collect money from me and give me a form?” he asked.

Hunye said he had documentary evidence to support his claim, including receipts for the payment and the nomination forms.

“I got the nomination form and the expression of interest form. I filled everything and returned it. I have the receipt. On the screening list, my number is 52,” he stated.

The controversy follows the APC’s earlier decision to disown Hunye, who has continued to present himself as the party’s Ogun governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

The party has instead reaffirmed Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as its duly recognised candidate for the election.

Hunye’s latest comments therefore deepen the dispute over the party’s nomination process and the circumstances surrounding his alleged suspension.

The development is likely to fuel further debate over the validity of the APC’s screening and nomination procedures ahead of the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.
