Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has reportedly intervened to prevent the arrest of Isese advocate Abdulazeez Adegbola, also known as Tani Olohun, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The reported incident occurred at Tani Olohun’s residence on Tuesday morning, amid an ongoing criminal case instituted against him by the Ilorin Heritage Preservation Foundation.

According to sources, police officers arrived at his residence and attempted to take him away. His family reportedly contacted Igboho, who arrived at the scene with some supporters and resisted the arrest attempt.

One source claimed that Igboho arrived after Tani Olohun had already engaged in a confrontation with the officers and allegedly demanded that they hand him over to him.

However, the exact circumstances surrounding the operation remain unclear, including whether the officers were acting under a valid warrant or a fresh court order.

A video shared on Facebook showed individuals who identified themselves as police officers at the residence. Relatives of Tani Olohun were heard expressing concern and questioning the circumstances of the attempted arrest.

Footage from the scene also showed Tani Olohun seated near a tap while two officers stood nearby. The incident reportedly resulted in a tense confrontation between the parties.

A man recording the incident alleged that the officers had travelled from Ilorin, Kwara State, to Ibadan to arrest Tani Olohun. He also questioned their identities and claimed that the vehicle used by the officers had no visible registration number.

The reported arrest attempt is connected to a criminal case filed against Tani Olohun by the Ilorin Heritage Preservation Foundation.

The foundation accused him of sharing a social media video that allegedly mocked an Islamic prayer and contained content capable of creating religious tension.

It further alleged that the video attracted hostile comments against Muslims and amounted to incitement of religious disturbance, contempt of religious creed and injurious falsehood.

The complaint was reportedly filed under Sections 114, 210 and 393(1) of the Penal Code Law of Kwara State.

The case is currently before the Upper Area Court II, Ilorin Judicial Division, with the next hearing reportedly scheduled for September 1, 2026.

Neither Tani Olohun nor his lawyer was reportedly present at the previous hearing, while counsel to the Ilorin Heritage Preservation Foundation, Barrister Ademola Ajasa, was said to have expressed surprise at their absence.

The reported intervention by Igboho has also raised questions about whether he could face legal consequences for allegedly obstructing the police, although that claim has not been independently verified.

Tani Olohun is known for advocating Isese, the indigenous Yoruba religious tradition, and has previously been involved in controversies surrounding traditional religion, religious freedom and the preservation of Yoruba cultural practices.

The allegations against him remain unproven and will ultimately be determined by the court.

Efforts to obtain a reaction from Olayomi Koiki, Igboho’s spokesperson and media coordinator, were reportedly unsuccessful as of the time of the report.
