The Lagos State Sports Commission has intervened after U-15 squash player Mariam Oshodi reportedly missed a regional tournament because her mother’s shop, where her racket was kept, was locked by officials of Surulere Local Government.
Drivetvnews gathered that the Commission’s Director-General, Lekan Fatodu, met with Mariam and her mother, Kafayat Oshodi, after a video of the incident went viral.
Kafayat appealed for stronger cooperation between government agencies and the sports commission to prevent administrative issues from affecting young athletes.
Fatodu assured the family that the commission would engage the relevant government authority to prevent a recurrence. He also announced plans to improve communication with athletes and parents and strengthen policies aimed at protecting young sporting talents.
Lagos State Sports Commission said the intervention was part of efforts to ensure that administrative actions do not hinder the development of promising athletes.
