The vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabi’u Kwankwaso, has claimed that Peter Obi is a major concern for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Drivetvnews gathered that Kwankwaso made the statement on Thursday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he discussed the party’s preparations for the forthcoming election.
According to him, Obi enjoys considerable support in southern Nigeria, while the NDC is working to mobilise voters across the North.
“Peter Obi is popular in the South, and we are mobilising our people in the North. Even the President is concerned about the person of our presidential candidate, and he has been having sleepless nights because of him,” Kwankwaso said.
He also argued that Tinubu was relying on state governors for political support, suggesting that the president could not secure victory without their assistance.
Kwankwaso further alleged that some political figures had previously considered ways to manipulate the electoral process, although he did not provide evidence to support the claim.
He expressed confidence in the NDC’s prospects, citing the support of members of the Kwankwasiyya movement and other Nigerians seeking political change.
Kwankwaso said the party was building a formidable team as it prepared to contest the 2027 elections.
