The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has criticised Defence Minister Christopher Musa over his assurance that security agencies would remain neutral during the 2027 general elections.
Sowore accused Musa of favouring President Bola Tinubu and questioned his ability to guarantee impartiality during the polls.
In a post on X, the activist described the minister as a “loudmouth” and accused him of failing in his previous responsibilities as a military officer. He urged Musa to concentrate on tackling insecurity rather than making promises about the 2027 elections.
Sowore’s remarks followed Musa’s comments after a meeting with Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday. The minister had assured Nigerians that security personnel would act professionally and ensure voters could participate in the elections without intimidation.
Musa, who was accompanied by heads of security agencies, said the meeting was convened to brief the President on the country’s security situation ahead of the elections.
He also stated that Tinubu wanted the 2027 polls to be free, fair and credible, adding that security agencies would work to protect voters from intimidation.
However, Sowore challenged the minister’s assurance, alleging that his political alignment with the President raised concerns about the neutrality of security agencies during the election period.
