A 45-year-old self-proclaimed doctor, Adegoke Olaoluwa, was arrested in the Agodi Correctional Centre in Ibadan, Oyo State, by the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court on Monday, for the alleged murder of his patient, 45-year-old Adekunle Badmus.
Olaoluwa, hailing from the Idi-Aro area of Ibadan, is charged with one count of murder.
Magistrate A.T. Oyediji, declining to take the defendant’s plea, ordered Olaoluwa’s remand pending legal advice from the state Directorate of Public Prosecution.
According to Police Prosecutor Inspector Opeyemi Olagunju, the defendant purportedly caused Badmus’s death unlawfully on Tuesday, February 20, around 10.00 am, at Mercy Clinic and Maternity, Idi-Aro, Ibadan, by administering saline drugs without proper authorization.
Olagunju stated, “The defendant administered saline drugs to the patient without lawful justification. The offence is contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Sections 319 and 484 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.”
Drivetvnews indicates that while Section 484 prescribes three years imprisonment for an offender, Section 319 carries a potential death sentence.
