Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has ordered the immediate arrest of anyone allegedly connected to the killing of Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade, in Ile-Ife.

Oyeyemi, a political associate of the governor and member of the Accord Party, was reportedly shot dead on Sunday at Mayfair Garage during a dispute over control of a motor park.

The incident reportedly involved Accord Party members Nurudeen Alowonle and the chairman of Ife Mini-Bus, popularly known as Sibi.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke directed the Commissioner of Police to ensure that those responsible are arrested and brought to justice.

The governor also appealed for calm and instructed security agencies to restore peace and maintain order around the affected motor parks and other parts of the state.

As part of measures to prevent further disputes, Adeleke announced plans to reintroduce the Park Management System across Osun.

He said an executive order would soon be issued to establish the new management structure for motor parks and garages across the state.

Adeleke also ordered rival groups involved in the leadership dispute to immediately vacate the affected parks.

Oyeyemi had previously been involved in Osun’s transport and park management activities and was reportedly a member of the transition committee formed before Adeleke assumed office.

The deceased had also faced previous legal issues. In 2022, the Osun Police Command reportedly declared him wanted over allegations including murder, cultism and armed robbery. He was later arrested and arraigned at the Federal High Court in Osogbo in 2024 on charges including terrorism, conspiracy and unlawful killing. He was granted bail in April 2024.

Details surrounding the latest shooting remained unclear, while the governor’s directive has placed security agencies under pressure to investigate the incident and apprehend those allegedly responsible.
