A final-year student of Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki (EBSU), identified as Favour Ugwuka, has reportedly taken her own life.
According to Drivetvnews, Miss Ugwuka committed suicide in her hostel at the Ishieke Campus of the university on Thursday.
It was gathered that despite passing all her courses, the deceased, a final year student in the Department of English, repeatedly failed a particular course. The lecturer for this course allegedly vowed that she would never pass.
In a heartbreaking video circulating online, a woman purported to be the deceased’s mother blamed a lecturer for her daughter’s suicide. The woman, visibly distraught in the video, said, “Dr Enyi said he is the best, that nobody can teach like him. He should come and carry my daughter who has committed suicide.”
Additionally, a graduate of the institution who identified himself as Rex Nwome claimed that the suicide was due to the girl’s continuous failure in a specific course.
Rex Nwome explained, “Favour was my classmate and my best friend in the English Department. The lecturer mentioned earlier vowed never to allow Favour to graduate. She passed all her other courses, but had to pay an extra year’s tuition to rewrite the lecturer’s course.
