President Bola Tinubu has blamed his political opponents for the hunger and poverty facing Nigerians, insisting that his administration is working to address the challenges.
Drivetvnews gathered that Tinubu made the statement on Saturday during the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign flag-off rally at Ranchers Bees Stadium, also known as Kaduna Township Stadium, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Addressing supporters at the rally, the President accused his opponents of creating the economic difficulties they now criticise his administration over.
“I have an argument. I hear my opponent talking about hunger, poverty. Who created it? They did! They created the hunger, they created the poverty. We are trying to eradicate it,” Tinubu said.
The President also defended his administration’s record on salary payments and praised state governors for their performance, saying they were contributing to the country’s development.
“We pay salaries regularly. Our governors are working. I am proud of them. They are developing,” he stated.
Tinubu thanked the people of Kaduna State for supporting him during the previous presidential election, saying their votes contributed to his emergence as President.
“You gave me joy to remember the victory you gave me to become president. I come again to thank you,” he said.
The President appealed to Nigerians to give him another mandate in 2027, explaining that he wanted to sustain his promises of prosperity, continuity, progress and development.
He also addressed Nigerian children at the rally, describing his administration’s commitment to the country’s future as a promise. However, the available transcription of his speech ended before he completed the statement.
The rally marked the formal launch of the APC’s presidential campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Kaduna State was selected to host the campaign flag-off as the ruling party began mobilising support for Tinubu’s second-term bid, with party leaders and supporters gathering from different parts of the country.
