A man who had been reported missing was found inside a crocodile in north-eastern Australia, according to information released by Australian police on Tuesday.

The man, aged 40, went missing on Saturday afternoon after a suspected crocodile attack near the Annan River Bridge in Far North Queensland. Queensland police have stated that a formal identification process is underway, but it is believed that the remains belong to the missing man from New South Wales. The search and rescue operation for him has been concluded.

On Monday, a spokesperson from the Queensland Department of Environment, Science, and Innovation informed local media that a large crocodile, thought to be responsible for the attack, was “humanely euthanized.” The crocodile, approximately five meters long, was located about four kilometers from where the man disappeared and was identified by distinctive markings on its snout. It was estimated to be several decades old.

Reports from Australian media indicated that the man had been at a well-known fishing spot with his wife and children. Authorities are also looking into claims on social media that people were seen feeding crocodiles near the site of the incident.
