Mojisola Awesu, a 21-year-old student from Kwara State College of Health Technology, was found lifeless at a refuse dump in the Aleniboro area of Ilorin. This discovery was made on August 12, 2024, and confirmed by DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, the Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, in a statement issued to the press on Tuesday.
The police were alerted by a resident, leading to the recovery of Awesu’s body, which was then transported to a morgue. The investigation uncovered that a missing person report was filed on August 13 by Blessing, Awesu’s roommate. The report indicated that Awesu had left on August 9 to attend a party supposedly organized by students from Summit University and Al-Hikmah University.
According to the police, Awesu had been contacted by her friend Timileyin, who introduced her to a Summit University student named Adebayo Happiness. Happiness had allegedly invited Awesu to the event under the guise of hiring her as his girlfriend for ₦15,000. Upon her arrival in Ilorin, Awesu felt uncomfortable with the hotel arranged by Happiness and noticed that no party was taking place.
Awesu communicated her discomfort to her roommate before her phone went silent, and subsequent attempts to contact her failed.
Ejire-Adeyemi explained that Timileyin had informed Awesu about a party hosted by students from Summit University and Al-Hikmah University. Timileyin introduced Awesu to Adebayo Happiness, who allegedly offered ₦15,000 for her to act as his girlfriend. Awesu, upon reaching Ilorin, reported her unease about the hotel and the nonexistence of the party.
The Kwara State Police Command has initiated an investigation, resulting in the arrest of several suspects. The case has been referred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further analysis.
