The Nigeria Police Force has assured the public that efforts are underway to secure the safe release of schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oyo State.

Speaking during an official visit to the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja on Monday, the South-West Coordinating Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), Adegoke Fayoade, said security agencies are working together to ensure the victims regain their freedom as quickly as possible.

According to the DIG, all relevant authorities, including government agencies and security operatives, have intensified efforts to rescue the abductees without harm.

He emphasized that the police remain focused on the recovery mission and do not participate in ransom negotiations. Fayoade stated that the force’s priority is the safe return of the victims rather than discussions about any ransom demands reportedly made by the kidnappers.

The senior police officer explained that his visit was aimed at evaluating ongoing operations, strengthening supervision, and engaging personnel on strategies for tackling emerging security challenges across the country.

He added that observations from the visit would be submitted to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to guide future operational and policy decisions.

Fayoade also identified key challenges facing the police, including inadequate manpower, officers’ welfare concerns, and logistical constraints. He noted that ongoing recruitment exercises are intended to address staffing shortages nationwide, while improving personnel welfare remains a priority for the force leadership.

The DIG further highlighted the police force’s increasing use of technology, including artificial intelligence and a centralized data system, to enhance intelligence gathering and criminal investigations. He said the initiative aligns with efforts to build a more intelligence-driven and technology-focused policing system.

He urged officers to maintain professionalism, respect human rights, and remain committed to their responsibilities. Fayoade also stressed the importance of cooperation between the police and the public, noting that effective security management requires support from all stakeholders.

The police chief concluded by calling for mutual respect and collaboration between law enforcement officers and citizens, describing it as a vital component of maintaining national security and public safety.
