The Ondo State Police Command has revealed details of a tragic incident in which a man killed his estranged wife.
According to a statement published on the police’s website, the man lured his estranged wife to his house under the pretext of collecting a box of clothes. However, once inside, he set both of them on fire. The police did not disclose the identities of the individuals involved or the exact location of the incident.
While the man was rescued by authorities, the woman suffered severe burns and was burned beyond recognition.
The police reported that the couple had separated due to unresolved conflicts. They explained, “The man invited his estranged wife to come and retrieve a box of clothes. Once she entered the house, he locked the door, threatened to kill himself, and declared that they would die together.”
The man then poured a flammable substance on both himself and the woman before igniting the fire. He died instantly, while the woman was rushed to three different hospitals for medical attention but later succumbed to her injuries.
The police concluded by urging the public to be cautious in dealing with individuals who display violent or harmful tendencies in relationships.
