Fatima Dzuma, a resident of Lafiyagi Dzwafu village in Katcha Local Government Area, Niger State, has reportedly confessed to killing her husband, Baba Aliyu, in an incident that has left the community in shock.

According to a local source, Baba married Dzuma three years ago after her divorce from her first husband. While the couple did not have children together, Dzuma had one child from her previous marriage. At the time of the incident, Baba’s first wife had recently given birth, and preparations were underway for the naming ceremony.

Dzuma allegedly admitted to committing the crime, stating she killed her husband because she “no longer liked him.” Drivetvnews Reports indicate she strangled him with a scarf before striking him twice on the head and once on the hand with a pestle while he was asleep, breaking his hand.

After the murder, Dzuma wrapped Baba’s body in a mat, dragged it to the backyard, and cleaned up the scene. For three days, she denied knowing his whereabouts, despite frantic searches by Baba’s family. However, she eventually confessed, stating, “I acted alone.” Dzuma is now in police custody, pleading for leniency and claiming, “The devil made me do it.”

The Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident. He revealed that Baba Aliyu’s body was discovered on December 31, 2024, in a bush near Katcha. Police operatives from the Katcha Division quickly responded to the scene.

Further investigations uncovered that Dzuma, 27, admitted to killing Baba following a violent altercation. She claimed her husband had beaten her during an argument, and later, while he was asleep, she struck him with a pestle, leading to his death. To cover up the crime, she tied his body with clothes and rope, wrapped it in a mat, and dumped it in the bush.

The body was transported to Bida General Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Dzuma is currently in custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for further investigation and prosecution.
