The Edo State Police Command confirmed on Sunday the arrest of Kelvin Izekor in connection with the alleged murder of his wife, Success Izekor, 38, which occurred on Saturday.

A widely circulated video showed police officers and local residents removing the deceased, who had deep machete wounds on her head, from her apartment and placing her in a police Hilux truck.

The couple, recently married, left many residents in shock as they struggled to comprehend what could have led to such a tragic incident. One resident, speaking anonymously, described the situation as unexpected and heartbreaking, expressing disbelief that Success had met such a fate.

The spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, Moses Yamu, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday. He noted that Kelvin Izekor was on the verge of being lynched by an enraged mob before law enforcement officers intervened, calmed the crowd, and took him into custody.

According to Yamu, “On Saturday, February 22, 2025, around 10 p.m., authorities received information that Kelvin Izekor, residing at No. 50 Upper Mission Extension, Benin City, had allegedly killed his wife, Success Izekor, aged 38. A mob was about to lynch him when police operatives from the Aduwawa Division swiftly responded to the report.”

Upon arrival, officers found the victim lying lifeless in a pool of blood with severe head injuries. “It required significant effort to pacify the crowd, rescue the suspect, and take him into custody for further investigation,” Yamu added. “The victim was immediately taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.”

Edo State Commissioner of Police, Betty Otimenyin, condemned the rising cases of domestic violence and assured the public that a thorough investigation would be conducted. She emphasized that anyone found responsible would face legal consequences in accordance with the law.
