Following a rise in violent attacks across Plateau State, Governor Caleb Mutfwang has imposed a statewide ban on night grazing, restricted cattle movement, and limited motorcycle operations.

In a public broadcast delivered Wednesday from Jos, the state capital, Governor Mutfwang announced these measures as part of a strategic effort to address the worsening security crisis.

The announcement comes after a string of coordinated assaults by suspected terrorists on various communities. On April 2, armed individuals attacked Hurti, Josho, Daffo, and nearby areas in Manguna District. Just days later, similar violence occurred in Zike and Kimakpa communities in Kwall District, Iregwe Chiefdom of Bassa Local Government Area. These attacks left numerous residents dead and caused extensive destruction to homes and property.

“To help restore peace and improve security, effective Wednesday, April 16, night grazing is officially banned throughout Plateau State,” Governor Mutfwang declared. He also stated that moving cattle by vehicle will not be allowed after 7:00 p.m., and motorcycle use will be restricted between 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. until further notice.

He stressed that these actions are part of a larger plan to ensure public safety and stability in the region. Dismissing the idea that the violence is due solely to clashes between farmers and herders, the governor suggested that a more organized and deliberate effort may be behind the attacks.

“These killings are not random disputes—they point to a more serious underlying issue,” he said, adding that the state government is committed to uncovering the truth behind the unrest.

Governor Mutfwang also expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his continued support in addressing the security challenges. Additionally, he revealed plans to form a fact-finding committee made up of trusted and independent individuals to investigate the violence and recommend effective solutions.

He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to protecting lives and property, promising stronger cooperation with security agencies to bring peace and stability to affected communities.
