Nigerian musician Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, recently disclosed that he persistently pleaded with the renowned rapper and YBNL Nation CEO, Olamide, for approximately two years before securing a record deal with the label.
The ‘Mr Money’ singer shared that Olamide summoned him to his residence one day and inquired if he would be interested in joining his record label, to which Asake agreed albeit with some hesitation.
During an interview with Hip TV, Asake recounted, “I had been pleading with Baddo [Olamide] since 2020 to sign me. One day, I got to his house, then he asked me… This part blew my mind. This is how he signed me. He said, ‘How are you, Asake?’ I said I’m fine. And he asked me, ‘Would you like to join YBNL?’”
He further added, “For someone you admire, respect, and have been yearning to meet, to ask you that question… I informed him that I’m ready. He said, ‘Go and consider it. Seek advice from a lawyer.’ I said, ‘Baba, sign me right away. I don’t need a lawyer. Because I have so much love for the [YBNL] family, even from afar.’”
Asake officially signed with YBNL Nation in February 2022. Subsequently, he released his debut extended play, ‘Ololade,’ during the same month. The EP featured his breakout track ‘Omo Ope’ with Olamide and the single ‘Sungba.’
