Yoruba Nollywood actress, Jaiye Kuti, recently clarified reports suggesting she ridiculed veteran Nollywood stars seeking financial assistance online. In 2023, the actress made headlines due to comments addressing the trend of veteran Yoruba Nollywood actors asking for financial aid on various online platforms. Her statements sparked controversy, with many interpreting her words as demeaning towards the industry’s seasoned stars. However, in an interview with Legit, Kuti emphasized that her remarks had been misconstrued. She expressed admiration for the veteran stars, acknowledging their pivotal role in paving the way for younger talents in the film industry. She clarified that her intention was solely to advocate for establishing an insurance fund to support Nollywood icons during their elderly years.Kuti highlighted, “My objective at that time was to emphasize the necessity of creating an insurance fund for our industry. I hold our elders in high regard; they laid the foundation for many of us in this profession. I would never belittle or disparage them. My focus was on ensuring their care in their old age.”She also addressed the negative impact of social media, condemning the activities of anonymous and malicious individuals who aim to harm others online. Kuti revealed the personal toll such actions took on her during that period, emphasizing the need to remember the human aspect behind social media.
