The Oyo State House of Assembly has appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde to begin the renovation of rundown local government secretariats across the state in order to boost administrative effectiveness and improve the welfare of workers.

The appeal followed a motion presented by Hon. Akintunde Olajide, representing Lagelu Constituency, and co-sponsored by Speaker Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, House Leader Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin, Hon. Olusola Owolabi, and Hon. Peter Ojedokun during plenary in Ibadan.

Hon. Olajide, who heads the House Committee on Local Government, Chieftaincy Matters, and State Honours, noted that several secretariats in the state are in deplorable condition and unfit for modern administrative use.

He expressed concern that the poor state of these offices has reduced public trust in government institutions and created unsafe working conditions for staff and residents.

According to him, renovating the secretariats is crucial for strengthening transparency, accountability, and productivity in local governance—values consistent with Governor Makinde’s sustainable development goals.

Olajide explained that modernizing the structures would restore efficiency and respect to local government operations while enhancing grassroots development and economic progress throughout Oyo State.

The Assembly resolved to instruct the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters to carry out a comprehensive evaluation of all local government secretariats to identify those in urgent need of repair.

Lawmakers also urged collaboration with private investors through Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs to support the renovations. In addition, they called on the state government to prioritize sufficient budget allocations for upgrading local government secretariat facilities.
