Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced a cash reward of N20 million each for the two overall best graduating students of Lagos State University (LASU) for the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions.
Drivetvnews gathered that Sanwo-Olu made the announcement on Wednesday during LASU’s 29th and 30th combined convocation ceremonies held at the university’s main campus in Ojo.
The beneficiaries are Ayilara Olawale, who emerged as the best graduating student for the 2024/2025 academic session, and Adebanjo Oluolamide, the overall best graduating student for the 2025/2026 session.
Olawale graduated from the Department of Project Management Technology with a 4.96 CGPA and First Class honours.
Oluolamide, who studied Aerospace Engineering, recorded an impressive 4.97 CGPA, also graduating with First Class honours.
According to a statement shared by the governor’s New Media aide, Jubril Gawat, Sanwo-Olu said the N20 million award would be presented to each of the two outstanding graduates.
The governor also clarified that the financial reward was his personal donation to recognise their academic achievements.
The latest gesture comes shortly after Oluolamide received another N10 million award from the Sunbeth Excellence Partnership Programme for emerging as LASU’s overall best graduating student for the 2025/2026 academic year.
LASU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, had earlier announced the names of the two outstanding students ahead of the combined convocation.
More than 20,000 students are expected to graduate from the university across the two academic sessions, including 494 students who achieved First Class honours.
Olawale attributed his academic success to divine grace and expressed gratitude for graduating at the top of his class.
Oluolamide also celebrated his achievement, highlighting his 4.97 CGPA and First Class result in Aerospace Engineering.
The governor’s reward is expected to further encourage academic excellence among students of the institution.
