The Lagos State Council of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has refuted recent media claims suggesting that one of its members was arrested for administering a fatal injection to the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad.

In response to the allegations, the State Secretary of the council, Toba Odumosu, clarified on Saturday that the person apprehended for administering the injection to the late singer is not a registered nurse. The NANNM expressed its condolences to the family of Mohbad and affirmed its support for the ongoing investigation into his untimely demise.

The statement emphasized the need for professionalism in both reporting and conducting the investigation, stressing that verifying the qualifications and professional status of individuals before categorizing them as healthcare professionals is crucial. The NANNM highlighted the regulatory challenges in Nigeria’s healthcare system, leading to unqualified individuals performing medical tasks beyond their training.

The council also pointed out that the term “Auxiliary Nurse” has no place within Nigeria’s healthcare system, and individuals are either qualified nurses or unqualified individuals exceeding their competence.

In conclusion, the NANNM urged investigative authorities and the media to exercise accuracy and caution in their reporting during this ongoing investigation and demanded that media outlets rectify any inaccuracies in their stories concerning the alleged arrest of a nurse.
