Ayra Starr, the rapidly emerging Nigerian artist, publicly apologized to the legendary musician, King Sunny Ade, for an incident where she inadvertently disrespected him at an event. Social media was abuzz with criticism directed at Ayra Starr for her perceived disrespect towards King Sunny Ade and Burna Boy’s mother. In a circulating video, she appeared to ignore Burna Boy’s mother while warmly greeting the woman beside her and later acknowledging King Sunny Ade with a handshake. In response to the online backlash, Ayra Starr took to her official platform on Saturday morning to express regret and provide context. She explained, “I’m sincerely sorry. Upon entering, the lights and nerves momentarily blinded me, but I returned to greet everyone properly. Disrespect is not in my nature; I am a respectful Yoruba girl. The video didn’t capture my initial greeting to Burna’s mom, which happened before the recording started. My heartfelt apologies to the legend, uncle, and King Sunny Ade.”
