A series of unfortunate fire incidents wreaked havoc in Ilorin, Kwara, causing significant damage to both property and livelihoods. The first incident occurred at Grace International School in the Tanke area, where a careless fire, ignited in an undergrowth, swiftly engulfed a block of classrooms on Sunday night. The inferno, believed to be started by unknown individuals, tragically consumed nine out of the 14 classrooms, leaving the school in ruins.Responding swiftly to the distress call, the Kwara State Fire Service arrived at the scene, battling the blaze with determination and expertise. Despite their efforts, the fire had already caused extensive damage, prompting a thorough investigation revealing the deliberate ignition of the undergrowth as the source. In another heartbreaking incident, a fire erupted at Akumaju compound in the Ita-Amodu area during the early hours of Monday morning. Four out of six rooms were engulfed in flames, leaving the residents devastated. Once again, the state fire service promptly responded, containing the fire and preventing further destruction. Investigations revealed that the fire originated from a refuse dump, ignited by an unidentified individual.Expressing his condolences to the affected parties, the Director of Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade Olumuyiwa, highlighted the importance of public vigilance and safety consciousness. He urged citizens to remain vigilant and prioritize safety in their daily activities, emphasizing the need for collective efforts in fostering a fire-conscious community.
