Anthony Uga, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Ogun State, has issued a stern warning to motorists traversing the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, highlighting speed violation as a primary contributor to accidents on the route.

Uga’s statement came in response to a tragic incident near the Fidiwo section of the expressway, where five lives were lost, and four individuals sustained injuries.

He urged drivers to exercise caution and not treat the expressway as a racing track, despite its well-maintained condition.

According to reports from Drivetvnews, the accident occurred on Thursday afternoon near the Fidiwo Bridge, close to Ogunmakin along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Five fatalities were reported, with four others injured in the collision involving a red Prome bus (MUS191HA) and a golden Toyota Camry car (AKD754BG).

Florence Okpe, spokesperson for the Ogun FRSC, disclosed that wrongful overtaking, excessive speed, and a tire burst were responsible for the tragic incident.

The injured victims were promptly taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere Remo, for medical attention, while the deceased were transported to the FOS Morgue in Ipara Remo.

Highlighting the ongoing dangers on the expressway, Drivetvnews previously reported another accident near the NASFAT section, involving two trucks and a bus. This earlier incident, which occurred at 9:56 am, claimed five lives and left ten others injured. The reckless maneuvering of one truck driver, who executed a sudden U-turn without signaling, triggered the collision between the vehicles.

Authorities continue to emphasize the importance of responsible driving to prevent further tragedies on this critical transportation artery.
