Two police officers, identified as Inspector Abubakar Fakku and Sergeant Elisha John, were lynched in Edo State following their alleged involvement in the death of a commercial motorcycle rider.
The incident occurred in Ikpeshi, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of the state. The officers were reportedly escorting former Edo State House of Assembly member Emmanuel Agbaje when a vehicle in their convoy struck and killed a motorcycle rider, whose identity remains unconfirmed.
Subsequently, the enraged community took the officers to the Edo State Security Volunteer Network, where irate youths attacked and lynched them. The mob also targeted the vigilante facility, damaging furniture, and issued threats against members attempting to aid the officers.
Despite the violence, some vigilante members managed to rescue two other police operatives, who are currently receiving medical treatment at Ifejola Hospital Igarra. Additionally, rifles belonging to the police officers were recovered during the rescue operation.
